Anna Stavrianakis

Anna joined Shadow World Investigations in September 2023, and works on a consultancy basis on research and strategy issues. She researches the international arms trade, UK arms export policy and international arms transfer controls. In recent years she has focused mostly on the impact of the arms trade on the war in Yemen. She works with activists, NGOs, journalists and parliamentarians on issues of UK, EU and international arms export controls and campaigns to rein in the arms trade. She is also Professor of International Relations at the University of Sussex. Her first book, Taking Aim at the Arms Trade: NGOs, Global Civil Society and the World Military Order analysed the ways that NGOs such as Amnesty International, Campaign Against Arms Trade, Oxfam and Saferworld work for tighter controls on the arms trade. She is the co-editor (with Jan Selby) of Militarism and International Relations: Political Economy, Security, Theory and (with Maria Stern) of “Militarism and Security: Dialogue, possibilities and limits” in Security Dialogue.
